From Personal Growth to System-Wide Impact

As our community grows, so does our collective impact. The aggregated data from not only our platform, but other social justice and prison reform platforms reveal patterns of effort, skill development, and sustained progress that institutions—such as employers, policymakers, and corrections leaders—can no longer overlook. These documented journeys become evidence of transformation that can support advocacy for expanded access to:

A Collaborative Effort

Preparation for release is a community effort. Our platform brings together justice-impacted individuals, families, mentors, volunteers, and institutions to build a system that rewards preparation, responsibility, and contribution. Growth matters not just for the individual—it matters for public safety, community well-being, and long-term change.

We offer all foundational lessons and tools at no cost because we know access should never be a barrier to transformation. People in custody face enormous challenges—restricted liberty, separation from loved ones, and systemic obstacles to employment and stability. By helping participants build a documented pathway of deliberate, sustained effort, we create a powerful tool for self-advocacy and lasting success.

Why This Works

The journey toward success after incarceration requires intention, structure, and evidence—not just hope. A profile on A Better Tomorrow demonstrates that a person has moved beyond intention and stepped into deliberate planning, consistent effort, and measurable progress. When preparation is visible, opportunity becomes possible. When effort is documented, progress can be recognized. And when people are given the tools to grow, transformation follows.

Oscar B.

After serving time in prison, Oscar B. faced the uncertainty that many returning citizens know all too well—how to start over in a world that often overlooks people with records. That’s when he connected with A Better Tomorrow (ABT Community), a turning point that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his life.

With the support and guidance of ABT Community, Oscar secured a full-time position at Goodwill, a nonprofit organization known for giving second chances to individuals impacted by the justice system. Through hard work and dedication, Oscar quickly became a valued team member.

Oscar credits ABT Community, and Derek Bluford in particular, for helping him regain his confidence and sense of purpose. “A Better Tomorrow isn’t just an organization,” Oscar says. “It’s given me a chance and friend that believed in me, and helped me when I needed it most.”

Today, Oscar continues to thrive at Goodwill, and his story is a reminder that with support, opportunity, and belief, transformation is not only possible—it’s powerful. He is living proof that second chances create stronger communities and brighter futures.
